Toyota Transmission Repair near San Jose, CA
The transmission system in your vehicle shifts gears to help you accelerate around San Jose. If you're experiencing trouble, bring your Toyota to our dealership. The Service Department at Fremont Toyota is excited to help you.
Red Flags
Unless the check engine light on your information cluster is illuminated, it can be difficult to determine whether or not your car is having transmission issues. One of the warning signs that you can look out for is a slipped gear. This occurs when you attempt to accelerate or go from park to reverse and are unable to do so. High RPMs can also indicate a problem with your system. If the tachometer reaches the red zone at any time while you press on the gas pedal, it can mean that the transmission can't keep up with the power it's receiving from the engine. We can't forget to mention that a grinding noise from under your hood is certainly a red flag. Drop by if any of these symptoms appear.
How Do Transmissions Work?
Toyota vehicles are most often equipped with automatic or Continuously Variable transmission systems. These both work in a similar way, controlling your gear shifts as you go from point A to point B on Alum Rock Avenue. The main difference between the two is that automatic components use gears, while CVTs operate on pulleys for smoother transitions. Since they don't require much effort on the part of the driver, these are usually preferred over manual transmissions. However, motorists that enjoy a sporty driving experience while heading to Happy Hollow Park may like manual iterations. There is not much difference in terms of fuel efficiency between automatic and manual setups, but CVTs use more modern technology and can save some fuel. Whichever you have, we can assist you at our location.
Getting Repairs
Whether you've been on the road for over 200,000 miles or have experienced a slipped gear, you may need to drop by our location for repairs. Transmission components last quite some time, but it's important to properly maintain them as you drive. Getting routine fluid replacements every 60,000 to 100,000 miles is essential to the lifespan of the mechanics. If your system is left too long without being tended to, you may find that it needs to be rebuilt. This process is often expensive and time consuming, so doing whatever you can to avoid such an outcome is preferred. If you want to save money on your routine maintenance, feel free to examine our ongoing service specials!
How Often Should You Get New Transmission Fluid?
- We recommend getting fresh transmission fluid every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, but check your Owner's Manual to be sure!

“ I received excellent service from Service Advisor Antonio Vazquez today. I came in for a 100,000-mile maintenance service for a 2016 Prius and he took care of it, no problems. He also provided a shuttle service via Lyft to bring me home and pick me up when the service was completed. Please note that this service only applies if you live within 5-6 miles from Fremont Toyota. My advice here to anyone doing maintenance is to be on top of it and READ YOUR MAINTENANCE MANUAL. I cannot stress this enough. This way, you can avoid the unnecessary services that you don't need. If you blindly accept and agree with everything they offer to you, you can be in for some very expensive invoices. Because I knew what was only necessary for my vehicle, I was able to slash 2/3 of the cost because their system is programmed to offer you EVERYTHING, even if you don't need it. Imagine my shock when they quoted me $1200 for everything but because I knew what was just needed, I whittled it down to $400, and then applied a 30% off coupon on top of it. Some key points for maintenance on a 2016 Prius: 1. Oil and filter change every 10,000 miles or 1 year. 2. Engine filter and air cabin filter change every 30,000 miles or 3 years. 3. Engine coolant change at 100,000 miles or 10 years. Replace at 50,000 miles or 5 years thereafter. 4. Spark plugs change only at 120,000 miles or 12 years. Replace again in another 120,000 miles or 12 years. 5. Hybrid Inverter coolant change at 150,000 miles or 15 years. Replace at 50,000 miles or 5 years thereafter. Thanks again for your help, Antonio, and I'm sorry for declining the other unnecessary services. ”
